Time for tea
As I was sipping my tea this morning, I’m thinking of a historical trip with my wife to Boston. History, in the old school books, talks about the beginnings of a revolution against a tyrannical king that made the colonist suffer with unruly taxation without representation. I so much love accurate history. I think we’re going to enjoy this trip.
Barack Obama – 2/9/2009 – But what I — what I’ve been concerned about is some of the language that’s been used suggesting that this is full of pork and this is wasteful government spending, so on and so forth.
Barack Obama – 2/10/2009 – And, listen, I know that there are a lot of folks out there who’ve been saying, “Oh, this is pork, and this is money that’s going to be wasted,” and et cetera, et cetera. Understand, this bill does not have a single earmark in it, which is unprecedented for a bill of this size, does not have a single earmark in it.
Chuck Schumer – 2/10/2009 – And let me say this, to all of the chattering class that so much focuses on those little, tiny, yes, “porky” amendments. The American people really don’t care.
Even Chucky calls it pork. Oh, and yes Chucky, we do care.
Okay… okay, there is a difference between pork and earmarks, but this is supposed to be an economic stimulus bill. All those “porky” amendments have nothing to do with economic stimulus. To be informed is to read the information, or in this case, the bill.
Taxing the people of this land without giving those same people the benefit of a voice in how they are treated is tyranny. Patric Henry called it taxation without representation.
Here is an example of one of those “porky” things. Did you know that a health care provision was put into the bill? This one slid in under the radar. One of the things in the provision says that elderly people “must accept” the complications of getting old. It’s not much of a stimulus, but I can see where it would save the government money to not extend the life of the elderly. It’s for the sake of the country, mom. Soilent Green is made out of people! Oops, just remembering a movie I watched long ago.
Sneaking that in is the definition of pork isn’t it Mr. Obama? We didn’t have a say about that one did we? The aristocrats know what’s best for us surfs. What was that Patrick Henry phrase again and why did we leave King Gorge’s England? Well as the English say… Time for tea.
